The powers of data and predicting your career

Where are you?

When I entered IHM Chennai 40 years ago, I had no clue where I would end up. In my mind, it was study hard, get a job or you would be begging on the streets.

It doesn't have to be like that. Having a Alumni database is good for several reasons for current students, graduates and Alumni.

Let's assume we have the data of every student who has graduated from IHM in the last 60 years. We could predict:

Xx% of the students will take employment abroad of which xx% America's, xx% in Europe, Middle East and so on.

Predict after 10 years, 20 years what level of responsibility you can expect to achieve.

Predict which fields graduates will most likely move to after an average of xx years.

Predict average starting salaries, by experience.

With the power of this be data, the institute can attract both students and employers plus be able to support graduates through networking opportunities and referrals.

Creating a database, maintaining it, enabling networking opportunities is not easy. It needs a good Alumni organization and the support from the college.

You can make a difference by:

Adding your information and encouraging everyone in you batch to submit their information.

Support the Alumni association with a one time contribution or setup a system of a regular monthly contribution. This is no different from supporting other good causes.

We want future generations of students not to face the uncertainty of where they will land up, and we want people to have a smile when you tell them you graduated from IHM Chennai.
