The Power of Hospitality: A Journey of Personal Growth and Professional Success
Pallavi Vachali
I embarked on my journey in the field of hotel management by enrolling at IHM, a decision influenced by a lifetime of visiting hotels with my parents, both deeply involved in the industry. The experiences I gained at IHM not only provided me with valuable education but also introduced me to lifelong friends and mentors who continue to guide me to this day.
After being accepted into the prestigious Management Training program with the Intercontinental Hotel Group, I had the privilege of working with various esteemed brands such as Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, and even Marriott International. At the young age of 24, I achieved the position of Assistant Front Office Manager, a remarkable feat made possible by the invaluable opportunities and support bestowed upon me by the industry and the people surrounding me.
Inspired by those who had nurtured and guided me throughout my own journey, I developed a strong desire to cultivate the potential of young minds in both their professional and personal development. This passion led me to take up a role in Hospitality Education at the Indian School of Hospitality, an institution that stands out for its unique blend of business education and specialized hospitality training. Here, I had the privilege of imparting my knowledge in operations, soft skills, and communication to aspiring individuals.
Today, my journey has brought me to the Great Lakes Institute of Management, where I am dedicated to shaping and preparing postgraduate students for success in today's fiercely competitive business world. It is an honour to be able to contribute to the development of future leaders who will undoubtedly make a significant impact in their respective industries.
Reflecting on the profound influence of IHM as an institute, I am compelled to highlight its extraordinary ability to develop individuals holistically, making them adaptable and valuable assets across various industries. We, hospitality professionals, possess a versatility that often goes unrecognized. Without us, countless industries would be incomplete, and it is crucial for the world at large to acknowledge and appreciate the profound significance of hospitality education.
In recent times, there has been a decline in admissions to IHMs, and I feel compelled to address this matter to the wider audience. Hospitality is not confined to its traditional boundaries but has permeated into every industry that exists today. It is an integral part, without which an organization's true potential remains untapped.
Let us recognize and celebrate the indispensable role of hospitality professionals in shaping the diverse landscape of businesses worldwide.
