From Taramani to Scotland Yard

We know that a MadCat can survive anywhere. We have many stories of our Alumni who made it a career outside hospitality sector. Here we look at the story of Roni Mathew Koshi who is now with Scotland Yard. Here is the story in his own words.

A‘92 batch MadCat, I spent my next 13 years in the industry, starting off with Taj Connemara, then Leela Kempinski Mumbai and back to Chennai with Hilton.

I then had an opportunity to come to the United Kingdom working for a local businessman to set up a chain of restaurants across the country.

After attaining British citizenship, a casual chat with a neighbour who thought I’d make a better police officer than a hotelier led me to submit my application for the same. And as they say, the rest is history!

I have now been a police officer for 17+ years having worked in a variety of uniformed and detective roles in emergency response, counter terrorism, intelligence and major crime.

I do believe that my foundational years in the hospitality industry had a significant role in helping me firstly get into and, more importantly, enjoy a career with the Police.

Like so many of our MadCats have proven time and again, working in the hospitality industry takes away the fear of hard work and gives us the confidence to pursue any career we fancy, be it in the industry or outside of it.
