Taramani to Everywhere – globe-trotting story of Nimi and Kadir

Nimi Kadir

A travelling couple, that is what Nimi and Kadir are known as. If you chance upon on social media, you will spot their pics in some exotic locale or another.

Nimi and Kadir met while they were studying at IHM Chennai and soon there was romance in the air.

Nimi’s memories of college life in IHM still remains fresh in her mind. Coming from Madurai to Chennai and being new to the IHM environment, she did struggle initially. However, her batchmates were very supportive and she soon settled down and started enjoying her college life.

Nimi has over 37 years of work experience working in varied fields - a Chef at Taj Coromandel, Food production Instructor at IHM, Chennai, Property manager in the UK, Bank Manager at Lloyds TSB (UK), owner of Something Fishy Restaurant (Chennai) and Visa officer (British Deputy High Commission, Chennai).

After taking an early retirement in 2017. Kadir and Nimi started traveling, and they spend six months abroad and six months in India.

“Life has been good and has become a holiday for me and Kadir. We live our lives on a daily basis and enjoy every day as a blessing.” adds Nimi.

“I am also very lucky to have found my life partner Andavan Kadir whom I met in IHM during my first year in 1980. He was one year senior to me in college. We are happily married for 34 years but have known each other for 40 years. These 40 years has taken me round the Globe.” recalls Nimi, who belongs to the 1983 batch.

Nimi recalls the landmark event that is happening as our college is celebrating its 60 years (Diamond Jubilee) on 11th of August.

“I feel proud that I was part of this college both as a student and as a faculty. This year is also very special for my batch 1983, as we celebrate 40 years of leaving college, 40 years of having known Kadir and the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. So it is a triple celebration for me.” she adds.

Nimi goes on to add that we are all very lucky to be part of our college's Diamond Jubilee Celebration and doffs her hat to the Alumni committee who worked very hard to make this event happen. Kudos also goes out for the Catcalls team as well. Let's enjoy this precious moment and catch up with our mates.
